Will retired as the 8th Head of Midland School in Los Olivos, California in 2016. Prior to this role, he served as the Associate Head of Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine. Will and his wife Marguerite were awarded the Outstanding Citizenship Award in Bethel for their work securing funding and support for the teaching of writing in rural public schools. Will led winter mountaineering trips in northern New England for twenty five years and brings over forty years of independent boarding school experience to ISEEN. As a student, teacher, coach and administrator, he carries a deep understanding of place-based learning, student leadership, and experiential education. Will attended Middlebury College as a two sport college athlete where he earned a B.A. in American Literature and an M.A. in English from the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College. He studied the teaching of writing at Lincoln College, Oxford as well as “writing and a sense of place” at the University of Alaska Southeast. Will joined the ISEEN board in 2016.
