Institute Schedule

  • You can find a PDF of the Institute schedule, which can also be found on our website. We will post it around the hotel and school. Please note that changes to times and locations might be necessary - we will do our best to give you as much notice as possible. Be prepared for a fully integrated experience! Check-in instructions are further down in this email, so read thoroughly.

  • We’ve invited an excellent, local yoga instructor who will lead us in optional morning yoga classes right at the hotel on Day 2 and Day 3 of the Institute. Kevin welcomes all levels - beginners included! - and provides yoga mats, straps, and blocks. Read more about our instructor Kevin Flynn!

Place-Based Activity

Please fill out this form regarding programming at the Institute! You will have an afternoon in Boulder to engage in place-based exploration and we want to make sure we are prepared with the appropriate amount of supplies.

Chapperone App

The Chapperone App is one of ISEEN’s partners and has generously gifted us the use of their app for the duration of our Institute.  We will use the app primarily for communication (i.e. schedule updates, change of meeting location), so it is important that you download the PRO version of the app. Please make sure to use the email address you used to register for Summer Institute when joining the app on your phone. You should be automatically enrolled in our “trip”.

Pre-Reading/Watching

  • Please watch this 4 minute video to learn a bit more about ISEEN.

  • We recommend engaging in some pre-reading to help provide you with some relevant context and self-reflection prior to the Institute, please refer to the Summer Institute Reading List

Travel Information

  • The Institute will officially begin at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 24th. Please plan to take one of the shuttles from the SpringHill Suites at 2:30 PM or 3:30 PM to arrive at The Dawson School’s Innovation Center for check-in between 2:00-3:30 PM. We’ll have refreshments set up and want you to have adequate time to get settled before we start at 4:00 PM on the Quad. If you need to drive to campus, plug in Dawson’s address (10455 Dawson Drive | Lafayette, Boulder County, Colorado 80026) into your GPS, and park in lots 4 or 5.

  • Travel Connections Sheet: Should you be interested in trying to connect with other attendees to share a rental car/gas to, or from the airport, or even just coordinate riding up/back on the shuttle together, please click the link to add your information to a shared spreadsheet. It will be up to you to make connections based on this spreadsheet, so please check back on it and reach out to others traveling at similar times.

Institute Resources

Relevant documents can be found / will be saved in the ISEEN Attendee Resources Google Drive. For now, you can explore the *General Resources folder. Your cohort will add to this shared drive throughout the institute. Please note, in the interest of paper reduction, we will not have hard copies of any Institute documents, unless specifically requested in advance. We are assuming that you will access all documents electronically, or print copies from home, if needed.

Institute Attire and Weather

Institute attire is summertime casual. Average high temperatures in Lafayette/Boulder in mid to late June are typically around 83ºF/28ºC during the day and 50ºF/10ºC during the evenings. There could be the chance of showers so please bring a rain jacket (just in case), along with layers. You can find the current forecast here.  Because of the climate and altitude in the area, it is important to remember to hydrate and wear sunscreen.

We ask that all attendees bring comfortable walking shoes with tread for rocky, uneven terrain. Runners and yogis will want to bring appropriate clothing for these activities as there will be optional group runs and yoga sessions.

Some packing suggestions beyond the essentials:

  • Running/yoga/hiking clothes and shoes

  • Rain jacket, just in case

  • Bathing suit, for the hotel’s indoor pool

  • Water bottle

  • Sunscreen

  • Sun hat

  • Body lotion for the very dry environment and consequential dry skin

  • Saline nasal spray, if you’re prone to bloody noses in dry environments

Other Preparations

  • Please bring a laptop or tablet, a pen, and paper/notebook to all sessions for note-taking / journaling

  • Come prepared for a “show & tell” session, which we call “Ex Ed SLaM”, to share a resource, an activity or a tool (e.g., how you use the UN SDGs with your class, a favorite check-our of reflection activity, etc.) with the group. It doesn’t have to be a formal presentation (very casual and less than 2 minutes per person), but please start thinking about what you would share. An "Ex Ed Slam" is a short, high energy tutorial or demo of a pedagogy or practice. The word SLaM stands for: Sharing Learning and Mentoring.

  • ISEEN has a commitment to being as environmentally sustainable as possible. Please bring a reusable water bottle and coffee mug with you. We will provide you with water fountains and coffee to fill them up!

  • Follow us on social media and share your Summer Institute experiences! You can follow us on Instagram, X / Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Join our Facebook group to connect and share resources with your experiential ed colleagues.
