ISEEN Receives EE Ford Foundation Grant to Launch New Institute for School Leaders

September 25, 2024

ISEEN is thrilled to announce it has received a generous grant from the EE Ford Foundation to support the development and launch of a transformative new initiative, The Institute for Experiential Education Integration (IEEI). This grant responds to feedback from school leaders who are seeking support in bringing engaged, reflective, real-world learning from the periphery to the core of school programming.

Since its founding in 2005, ISEEN has created and deployed innovative professional development opportunities attended by thousands of educators. Today, ISEEN is at an exciting inflection point. In 2025 ISEEN will step into the arena not just as facilitators and connectors, but as experts ourselves. Our community has spoken and we have listened. You want more.

This institute, set to debut in October 2025, aims to revolutionize professional development for independent school leaders as they learn how to advance and deepen experiential learning programming through five critical threads.

  1. Faculty Activation: Activating faculty training, professional growth models, coaching and supporting the people who are teaching our students.
  2. Academic Content + Experiential Education: Deepening connection to content and building the “durable skills” that students need for a democratic society and a skilled workforce.
  3. DEIB: Deepening the integration of DEI using Ex Ed as a tool to build cultural competency, student leadership, student agency, and student belonging.
  4. City/Community/World as Classroom: Expanding community partnerships, global competencies, real-world learning, place-based learning, project-based learning, community engagement, service-learning, sustainability, environmental justice, and climate change.
  5. Ex Ed Assessment: Measuring learning and impact, grading, mastery, and college readiness.

Be the first to know! ISEEN invites educators to express their interest in attending the Institute itself. This non-binding expression of interest will ensure that you are among the first to know when registration opens. Space will be limited, and early interest could influence our decision to expand the institute capacity.
